Are you already familiar with the new safety signs? Three new EN ISO 7010 symbols are now available as sign templates – optimize your labeling with new standardized symbols!

Last year, the global standard for graphic symbols for safety marking, EN ISO 7010, was expanded to include additional symbols. The new symbols are:

  • Prohibition sign: Do not look into light source P075 [#p075]
  • Warning symbol: Hot content warning W079 [#w079]
  • Warning symbol: Hot steam warning W080 [#p080]

In the future, you will be able to label security requirements in a uniform, understandable way that were not previously specified using standardized symbols, thereby increasing the effectiveness of your security labeling.

You can design the new safety symbols individually or combined with your desired text or other safety symbols as individual safety markings.

Do not look into light source, P075

Prohibition symbol Do not look into light source, P075

The prohibition symbol shows a human eye directed at a light source in the shape of a light bulb. This is intended to prevent eye injuries due to visible optical radiation. The risk of injury from optical radiation depends on the wavelength, intensity, duration of irradiation and the irradiated area. The prohibition sign “Do not look into the light source” influences the last two factors in particular to prevent the risk of injury through correct behavior. This means that the signs W027 “Warning of optical radiation” and W004 “Warning of laser beam” are expanded to include a prohibition sign, which on the one hand differentiates the concept of visible optical radiation as a light source and on the other hand specifies a clear call to action specifically to protect the eyes.

Areas of application of optical radiation/dangers from light sources: arc welding, technologies: e.g. processes for materials testing, medical therapeutic technology, printing technology

Warning symbol: Hot content warning, W079

Warning symbol: Hot content warning, W079

The illustration uses three wavy lines surrounded by a circle and is used to warn of dangers from combustion or scalding if the hot contents of a system or container are released. The safety statement draws attention to high temperatures of substances such as liquids, gases or other elements within the system that can escape when opened. Clear labeling ensures safe handling of objects with hot contents. This new symbol provides a more precise warning than the 017 “Hot Surface Warning” symbol to better respond to this specific hazard.

For example, the “Warning of hot contents” symbol is intended for safety instructions for industrial plants, machines, pipes, heating and storage systems as part of accident prevention or maintenance safety. Further areas of application would be in the area of food preparation or in the cleaning sector.

Warning symbol: Hot steam warning, W080

Warning symbol: Hot steam warning, W080

In the form of a cloud of steam below a horizontal line, this symbol warns of injuries caused by hot steam escaping from technical systems under normal operating conditions.

The warning symbol Warning of hot steam also takes into account the limited definition of the symbol W017 “Warning of hot surface”, since the danger described does not only exist through contact with the surface. The new symbol takes these specific risks into account and allows for more precise warning. By introducing the symbol, employees are specifically made aware of the danger of hot steam. In addition to the risk of injury, the meaningful warning can also prevent damage to sensitive tools or devices that are in the area when steam is emitted.

Areas of application: Industrial plants with steam systems, laboratory technology, energy production, food industry

Example:
Previous labels can be made more meaningful and generally understandable with the help of the new symbols
