In order to meet the steadily growing security requirements, the EN ISO 7010 is regularly expanded to include new symbols. For example, last year the
Disinfect symbols (M061) and disinfect the surface (M062) to specify security requirements that were previously not covered by standardized symbols.
Today we would like to introduce you to six other important additions to EN ISO 7010 that will help you to make your security identification even more precisely and understand. These new symbols – W087, W088, W089, P081, M070 and M071 – address specific dangers and behaviors that are of great importance for accident prevention.
Since safety signs usually do not contain characters or numbers, it is important to integrate universally understandable pictograms into the standards.
Let us take a closer look at these new security signs:
Warning sign: Warning of high volume, W087
This new W087 warning sign is used to warn of high volume levels over longer periods. The symbol shows a human ear from which three curved lines emit as sound waves. There is a risk of exposure to the volume levels that can lead to hearing damage. The sign is intended to encourage people to take precautions in order to avoid such a noise exposure.
Compared to a long -standing security sign “Warning of sudden loud noise” (W038), a distinction is made with the new symbol acute/sudden noise pollution and persistent noise load.
Warning sign: Warning of movable blades, W088
The warning sign W088 warns of movable blades. There are fan -shaped blades (knife) together with a hand and separated fingers. The obvious danger comes from the movable, sharp -edged components. The symbol calls on to exercise caution and prevent contact with such moving parts.
Warning sign: Warning of movable gears, W089
The warning sign W089 serves the warning of movable gears. The pictogram shows a hand that is trapped between two gears. The danger lies in the risk of catching the moving gears, and the sign should serve to take precautions and prevent serious hand injuries. So far, similarly tried and tested variants have often been used for the risk of catching through gears. This is now standardized with the new symbol.

Prohibition sign: Do not cover the device, P081
The prohibition sign P081 signals a ban to cover a device with things. The symbol image shows a draped towel or cloth and socks that cover a device shown as a rectangle with two horizontal lines. The danger here is overheating the device, which can lead to a fire. The sign is intended to help avoid fires by failing to cover the device. The presentation differs from the symbol P030 (DIN 4844) by the elements shown.

Boot sign: Use lamp in lamp with shielding, M070
The bid sign M070 points out that a lamp may only be used in a lamp with a protective shield. The pictogram represents a glowing light bulb within a conversion from which light rays emerge downwards. The non-observance of this command is the risk of injuries such as heat damage, fire, splinters or UV radiation through contact with or exposure to the unwielded lamp. The sign is intended to cause the lamp to be operated exclusively in a lamp with a protective shield.
Booting sign: Use tilting protection, M071
The bid sign M071 signals that tilt faintings have to be used. The symbol shows an arrow and a bolt that goes into a wall by displaying a device or furniture. The danger caused by the non -observance is to tip over and fall down objects. The sign prescribes the use of tipping over the tip to prevent this danger.
Why these new symbols are important:
The introduction of these new symbols underlines the continuous adaptation of ISO 7010 to the diverse and developing danger areas in industry, business and public spaces. By providing specific warnings and instructions, these characters enable more precise communication between security information.
The consistent use of normal safety signs not only improves occupational safety and protection of people, but also helps to avoid damage to property. Trust standardized and clear labels to proactively meet dangers.
